Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Antonio Alvarez, Antonio Alvarez Fine Art Services, Inc., 29 West 36th Street, New York, NY, 212-254-2255. Mr. Alvarez is an independent conservator and not an employee of Sotheby's: This watercolor and pencil on paper is in very good condition overall. The paper is hinged in three places along the verso top edge with two hinge remnants at the verso lower right and left edges. Mild planar distortions are visible and are most likely due to the media application. There is one original 3/4" x 1/8" paper loss on the left edge 10" up from the bottom edge. Visually, the paper appears to exhibit slight surface soiling and is mildly oxidized from contact with acidic material and a natural process of aging due to light exposure. Note: All abrasions in the paper are intentional and original to the execution by the artist.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

The subject is a small orchard behind 8 Bells, N.C. Wyeth's family summer home in Port Clyde, Maine, looking from the barn toward the road that leads to the entrance.
