Catalogue Note
The Heartache Series – theatrical boxes made of mixed collages and arrangements of photographs, prints and various objects were created from the 1990s onwards, when the artist was living in New York. Farmanfarmaian made these intimate small-scale sculptures after the loss of her beloved husband, and she was inspired from all the places, faces and paraphernalia that were associated with a happy family and the artist’s soulmate.
