Catalogue Note

These salt cellars are catalogued as heraldic because the demi-lion rampant supports have been cast in the form of a family crest. Crests of this pattern are common to a number of families so without additional identification, such as a coat-of-arms, initials or an inscription, we are unable to identify their original owner. It cannot be doubted, however, that these salts were specially made to order.
