bidding is closed
Description
- gold, silver-gilt, enamel, seed pearl, hardstone
- Width 10.3cm, 4 1/8 in.
Square, carved of aventurine quartz and applied with ribbon-tied staffs, the raised border of translucent blue enamel over hatched engine-turning and applied with seed-pearls, scroll strut, struck with workmaster’s initials and Fabergé in Cyrillic, 56 and 88 standards
Provenance
Purchased in the early 1990s from the relatives of Nicholas Lynn (deceased circa 1990), owner of the antique shop The Winter Palace, located in Kensington Church Street, London
Condition
Generally very good condition. The enamel surfaces have been lacquered, presumably over restoration to the enamel. The stone, glass and metal with surface scratches consistent with age. The stone has a dark line inclusion at one corner, visible on the back (upper right corner), which does not appear to be a crack. The timepiece ticks when wound, but please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the mechanism.
