Description
- Émile Gallé
- Two-Tier Table
- signed in marquetry GALLÉ
- walnut with fruitwood, pewter and mother-of-pearl marquetry
Condition
Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the table presents with a slightly lighter brown color than in the catalogue illustration. The Fruitwood and wood species used to execute the floral marquetry and the quarter cut parquetry display rich figuring and varied color palette. The veneers and structural frame of the table present with some light surface scratches, minor abrasions, light surface soiling and minor discolorations commensurate with age and gentle use. The veneers present with light dryness to the wood consistent with sun exposure. The bronze cast-dragonflies handles with traces of cleaning agent to recessed areas. The lip of the bentwood edge of the upper tray with a horizontal hairline crack along approximately 6 inches, stable. A beautiful example with very nice details of mother of pearl and pewter inlays.
