- shade impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 1495
based impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/528 - leaded glass and gilt bronze
with a "Fifteenth Century" base
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 7 cracks dispersed to the glass tiles throughout. All of these hairlines appear tight and stable. The shade and base appear to have originated together, as supported by the complementary gilt patinas on the shade leading, base, heat cap, and socket components. The gilt patina on the bronze base is heavily rubbed throughout, revealing the warm tonality of the bronze surfaces below. The base with some occasional surface scratches, abrasions, and some minor areas of discolorations throughout consistent with age and use; the recessed contours of the base design with surface soiling and small isolated traces of oxidation. The period gilt finial with light surface wear and rubbing to the patina. All three sockets and paddle switches appear original and undisturbed. The socket cluster and riser with surface wear and discolorations to the gilt patina. A fine example of this iconic Dragonfly model, displaying vigorous mottling in the background passages of the shade in hues of rich oranges and yellows, imparting the shade with strong visual interest and depth. The glass displays far greater brilliance and nuance than seen in the catalogue photograph.
