Description

  • Károly Patkó
  • The Sailors' Discussion
  • signed Patkó lower right
  • oil on canvas
  • 130 by 93cm., 51 by 36 1/2in.

Provenance

Acquired from the artist by the late owner in Vienna circa 1933; thence by descent

Condition

The canvas has not been lined. There is some faint, stable craquelure visible notably in the upper half of the composition, and somewhat more pronounced in the pants of the man to the centre - this might benefit from consolidation. There are two small spots of flaking in the centre left and centre right edge, and some rubbing along the upper framing edge. Ultra-violet light reveals no sign of retouching. The picture is otherwise in good condition and ready to hang. Presented in a narrow frame.
