Condition

The canvas has been relined. The overall appearance is good and the picture presents well. There is some fine scattered craquelure throughout. Ultra-violet light reveals strokes of retouching along the right, left, and upper framing edge. There are scattered spots in the sky and some areas of restoration including: two 5 by 10cm circa areas in the sky in the upper left quadrant, one 5 by 5cm area in the sky in the centre of the composition and a 19cm stroke in the sky to the upper left possibly addressing an old repair. Other scattered strokes of retouching are visible in the sails in the centre of the composition. This work is ready to hang. Presented in a dark frame.
