Condition

The canvas has been relined. As visible in the catalogue illustration there is fine drying craquelure in the sky. Under ultra-violet light areas of residual varnish fluoresce making the surface difficult to read; strokes of strenghthening are visible in several areas, notably the cab moving from the left, in the viaduct, in and around several figures and the ground, and some fainter less extensive strokes in the lower part of the sky. This apart, overall the work presents well to the naked eye and is ready to hang. Present in a decorative gilt frame, with a nameplate.
