Condition

The canvas has not been lined. With the exception of some very small spots of retouching in the extreme four corners, as visible under ultra-violet light, this work is in very good original condition and ready to hang. Presented in a gilt frame. The colours are slightly less red and deeper than in the catalogue illustration.

From her early passion for Tissot, Helleu, and the Belle Époque, the late Jane, Lady Abdy (1934-2015) subsequently became a pioneering champion of Danish 19th Century art. From the 1980s on, at her Bury Street Gallery Lady Abdy promoted important works by Hammershøi, Købke, and Ilsted to an international audience.
