Description
- Georgios Bouzianis
- Portrait of a Lady (recto); Self Portrait with the Artist's Wife (verso),
- signed G Busianis lower left
- oil on canvas board
- 59.5 by 44cm., 23½ by 17¼in.
Provenance
Acquired in Eichenau between 1922-28 by the husband of the previous owner (probably directly from the artist); by descent to his widow in 1930; thence by descent in the family to the present owner
Condition
The picture is overall in good original condition and ready to hang.
The board is flat, ensuring a stable support and has been nailed to the back of the frame which appears to be too small for the board itself. There are some minor spots of flaking along the lower left edge and in the sitter's arm. Ultra-violet light reveals no sign of retouching. There are some remaining pieces of brown paper along the upper and lower edge of the verso, which was probably used to protect the painting surface. Would benefit from reframing.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
