Catalogue Note

La Charité, also known as Maternité, is a tender portrait of a mother with her two children; she is breastfeeding her youngest, the elder clutches onto her skirts. The present bronze was a sketch for a marble group of Charity which was at the London Stock Exchange: it was replaced by the current bronze model in 1897.
