  • white marble and alabaster, on a veined cream and grey marble column

Condition

Overall, the condition of marble and alabaster is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The proper right index finger is lost and the proper right ring finger is reattached. The proper left little finger is also reattached and the proper left index finger is reattached in two places. The sculpture is carved in sections and stable original joints are slightly visible. There is some veining to the alabaster, consistent with the material, including some slightly open veins to the chest and abdomen. There are some minor abrasions to the edges of the drapery, and some minor chips and abrasions to the terrasse. There are a few naturally occurring inclusions, in particular to the proper right arm. There are some small chips to the back of the wall and some small reattachments to the back of the terrasse. The column is generally in a good condition. It is composed in sections and has been stabilised at some of the joints with the addition of cork. There is a small loss to the side of the column at the bottom above the base.
