Catalogue Note

A student of Émile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau, Édouard Drouot was well known for his genre sculptures. He debuted at the Salon in 1889, where he became known for his figures, usually in bronze, often of mythological, allegorical, or exotic subjects. The present sculpture is a rare marble by Drouot. It depicts an oriental lady holding a dagger, possibly depicting the Biblical Judith, of which Drouot executed a plaster in 1911.
