Condition

Overall the condition of the marble is very good, with very minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is particular dirt to the back of the neck, the proper right arm, and the bottom edge of the bust. There is very slight veining to the marble, consistent with the material, notably at the back. There are a few minor chips to the bottom edge.

Catalogue Note

Gilbert Privat studied mostly in Paris, where he was a student of Coutain. He obtained a certain fame amongst his contemporaries for his funerary monuments and decorative fountains. The present bust shows clean and crisp carving influenced by the Modernist movement.
