  • signed and dated: E.BECHERONI.F.1849.
  • white marble, on a white marble socle

Condition

Overall, the condition of the marble is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some veining to the marble, consistent with the material, in particular to the neck and shoulders and the back. Some veins are very slightly open but stable, including to the front on the proper left side and the proper right side of the chest, to the back on the proper right side, and to the back of the base at the centre. There are a few small chips and minor abrasions, including to the collar, to the bottom edge of the bust and to the edges of the base. There are a few small naturally occurring inclusions to the marble, notably under the chin and on the proper left sleeve at the front; several further inclusions, such as to the forehead and the neck, have been filled in and appear white.
