Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age, including dust in the crevices. There is minor rubbing to the patina at the high points. A few original stable casting joints are very slightly visible, including at the trunks. There are a few spots of dryness and greening, notably to the terrasse. There is some dryness to the patina in areas, in particular around the edges of the terrasse.

Catalogue Note

Born in Frankfurt, Albert Hager settled in Belgium and became one of the country's foremost animalier sculptors. He frequently exhibited at the Brussels salon and in Antwerp, specialising in the representation of animals in action.
