Catalogue Note

Louis Dejean was a leading disciple of Rodin, best known for his stylish nudes with rounded forms, which he developed after the end of the First World War. The present evocative nude probably dates to after 1930, and reflects the influence of Aristide Maillol (1861-1944). The composition is very similar to the Youth in the Marjon collection, which has been catalogued as circa 1930-1937 (Elliott, op. cit., no. 31).
