Condition

Overall in excellent condition. There are some minor old marks and scattered chips notably to the outer rim of the table top. The colour of the ceramic top is very strong and defined, more so than in the catalogue photograph.

Catalogue Note

Théodore Deck (1823-1891) mined historical styles and techniques for his subjects, thus creating ceramic pieces influenced by a wide variety of sources including the Renaissance ware of the Saint-Porchaire factory, vases and chargers from Japan and China and Islamic tiles and wares. As early as 1856, his fascination with Iznik tiles and their lively palette and composition inspired a broad range of wares, shape and decorations such as the present table top. Deck received much critical acclaim after his acceptance of a silver medal for one of his “Persian” faience at the Paris Exposition de l’Art Industriel.
