Condition

In overall good condition with some old marks and pitting commensurate with age and the casting process. Each candlestick is in ten separate parts joined by one central stem. The colour of the gilding is less bright than in the printed catalogue. One candlestick has old wax residue that may benefit from cleaning according to taste.

Catalogue Note

Although best known as a founder Victor Paillard (1805-1886) created his own sculptures and groups. An early progeny as a draughtsman he opened his workshop "bronze d'art et d'ameublement" in the 1830s. He first exhibited at the Exposition des produits de l'Industrie in 1839.
