Condition

Overall in good condition and formerly fitted for electricity. The bronze patina has some minor variation in keeping with the catalogue image. Sotheby's advises using a professional when attempting any electrical undertaking. Otherwise ready to place.

Catalogue Note

Jean Francois Théodore Gechter (1796 – 1844) exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1827 to 1844, becoming a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1837. His most celebrated composition is the Garniture de Cheminée cast by Nicolas-Germain Charpentier known as Combat de Charles Martel et d’Abdérame which bears very close similarities to the present lot. A model of this garniture is currently in the permanent collection of the départemenet des objet d’art at the Musée des Louvres, Paris. (OA 11337-11339)
