Catalogue Note
These rare tiles, called ambrogette in the factory lists, were intended for fireplaces or free-standing stoves. The painting here, of exceptionally high quality, may be the work of Giovanni Battista Fanciullacci, the factory's most accomplished painter, who was usually reserved for painting on porcelain. A group of four similar tiles was sold at Sotheby's Florence, 19th October 1970, lot 143.
