Condition
There is a restored break running through the centre of the relief from top to bottom, it has been restored at the back. There are some fissures in this area, and further fissures elsewhere, including to the top right corner of the relief. There may be some restorations to the edges, particularly the left edge. There are various small chips and losses to the corners and edges. There appears to be a slip to the surface, which could conceal condition issues. The frame is in good condition with wear consistent with age. There are some chips and reattachments to the gilt gesso, and there is minor craquelure to the gilding. Otherwise the condition is good.

Catalogue Note
A wax relief of the same subject and size by Foggini is preserved in the Doccia Museum at Sesto Fiorentino (D. 1191). It is described in the inventory of the factory's models: un piccolo bassorilievo rappresentante Perso che libera Andromeda dal Mostro Marina, di cera. Del Foggini, con forme (Lankheit, op.cit., p.141).
This relief appears to have been paired with another depicting Cephalus and Procris, of which a wax copy is also preserved at Doccia (Lankheit, op.cit., pl.71). No Doccia porcelain reliefs of either subject are known.
