- a set of six tondos in integral carved frames, all oil on panel

Condition
Each panel consists of two or three uncradled horizontal planks. The paint surfaces are quite dirty, probably due to discoloured varnishs. The paint surfaces are secure, with no major losses. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals even varnishes, with small, localised retouchings.

Catalogue Note
This set of tondos derive from a series of engravings by Antonio Tempesta (Florence 1555–1630 Rome), published by Giovanni Battista di Lazzaro Panzera da Parma in 1596. The other six engravings in the series by Tempesta show Julius Caeser, Claudius, Nero, Vitellius, Vespasian and Domitian.
