boldly drawn in manganese and blue with a hare boxing in a stylised landscape, within blue dash borders, the lower of which encloses a scrolling monogram

Condition

A Laterza maiolica albarello, first half eighteenth century There is a 9cm. crack running from the base to edge of decoration; typical minor wear and glaze faults.

Catalogue Note

Though the painting of this piece is reminiscent of the so-called 'Maestro del leone rampante', the hand is if anything more exuberant, the nearest comparison in the literature perhaps being in Donatone (op. cit.).
