Description

  • Basin with Dolphin handles
  • mottled pink marble
  • Italian, Florence, 16th century

Condition

There is veining to the marble throughout, consistent with the material, including some slightly open veins. There is an area of restoration covering half of one side of the rim, probably to fill a loss. The fill has detached slightly on one side. There are a few further smaller filled areas to the body and foot of the basin, probably due to naturally occurring open veins. There are a few chips and losses to the top of the rim and its outer edge. There are further chips to the bottom edge of the foot. There are scratches and minor abrasions throughout. There is a hole and a green mark to the inside of the basin, and there is another green mark to the right of one of the dolphins. Otherwise the condition is stable, with dirt and wear consistent with age.
