of slender ovoid form with twisted lotus leaf handles, the garlic mouth enclosed by the moulded leaf terminals, boldly painted with lush green foliage against a ground of copper lustre whorls and scrolls, cockerel mark and number 10 in black

Catalogue Note

A smaller vase of this form, dated 1902, from the collection of Alfonso Lucifero d' Aprigliano, is illustrated in Liberty e deco, Milan, 2007, and another in Il Liberty in Italia, 2001, p.254.

The design is found in a drawing still held at the Cantagalli collection at the Museo delle Ceramiche in Faenza, and illustrated in the exhibition catalogue The Revival of Italian Maiolca: Ginori and Cantagalli, Stibbert Museum, Florence, 2011, no. 107; another example of the form is illustrated at no. 88.
