modelled as a large scallop shell supported by two rearing seahorses on a blue marbled three sided base, the rim of the shell applied with four models of tritons, two of which hold a badge bearing the arms of Mario Covino Girolami and Carolina Paulucci

Condition

The head of one of the lower tritons has been glued and is probably a replacement. Some re-gilding around the base.

Catalogue Note

Wine glass coolers or rinfrescatori per bicchieri, were created under the supervision of Gaspero Bruschi during the mid-1740s and further developed in the following decades. The present example and the development of this form through the mid-18th century is discussed by Winter (op. cit., pp. 23-29).
