Catalogue Note

Giovacchino Belli was a Roman silversmith who took over his father Vincenzo's workshop in the Via del Teatro Valle.  There are drawings by Giovacchino in the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York.

The figure is after a model by the celebrated Flemish sculptor, Giambologna (1529 - 1608).
