Catalogue Note

Both the drawings in this lot can be dated circa 1805 to 1810. They are connected with an altarpiece depicting Christ on the Cross with St Veronica that Cosway presented to the parish church in the village of Bampton, Devon in 1806. Bampton is close to the hamlet of Oakford, the village where the artist was born.
