Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This work on panel is flat and unreinforced, and the paint layer is stable. The work is probably clean. As is so often the case with such compositions, the brown background has developed some thinness, which has been retouched. There seems to be very little retouching within the lighter colors of the still life itself. While it may be tempting to clean the picture, it is doubtful that any significant changes would occur to the palette of the picture.
