Condition
Overall very good condition. As seen in the catalogue illustration, the balustrade panel maintains a rich patina, which is slightly deeper and a richer brown than in the catalogue illustration. The patina throughout is consistent with the natural aging process of the copper-plated cast iron. The panel presents with some minor surface dirt and wear to the patina to the recessed contours of the decorative scheme. There is a very shallow and visually unobtrusive dent to the front of the panel. The lower portion of the balustrade panel with a wonderful and graceful deigned arch adjacent to stair fastener, which is not visible in the angle of the catalogue illustration, but can be viewed in the period illustration on pg. 198 in the auction catalogue. This panel demonstrates the both depth and complexity of the aesthetic introduced by Sullivan in the early 20th century.
