Description

  • Tiffany Studios
  • "Marsh Marigold" Jardinière
  • impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/884 and with impressed monogram FLB on interior
  • gilt bronze

Provenance

Sotheby’s New York, March 7, 1987, lot 135

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The gilt bronze surfaces with traces of surface soiling to the recessed areas of the design, and with light rubbing to the outermost contours of the motif. With a few a small and minor areas of surface oxidation, mainly concentrated to the interior. The jardinière retains its original interior liner, which is integral to the design and not removable. There is a small stylized monogram impressed just below the interior rim which appears to read, FLB. The interior with surface soiling, discoloration and surface oxidation consistent with age and use. An attractive example of this rare model displaying finely cast details to the organic dimensional relief. When viewed in person the gilt patina is more subtle and naturalistic than seen in the catalogue illustration, which is slightly over saturated and too red.
