Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 8 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, mostly concentrated throughout the lower shade register. There is one glass tile located behind one of the reticulated leaf overlays with multiple cracks that has recently been sensitively stabilized. On the shade interior, five red glass tiles show evidence of very light devitrification. This is often seen with red favrile glass and is inherent in the natural aging process of the glass over time. It is only visible under close inspection of the shade interior and not visually detracting when viewing the lamp illuminated from the exterior. With traces of light surface soiling to the recessed contours beneath the exterior leaf overlays. The patinated bronze surfaces of the base displays finely cast details and an exceptionally rich and satisfying russet brown and green patina. The patinated bronze surfaces with a few light surface scratches, gentle rubbing and a few minor surface discolorations consistent with age and gentle use. The sockets and paddle switches all appear original and undisturbed. With a period finial which displays a closely corresponding patina to the base and is assumingly original to the lamp. The finial—which is an early and rare decorated model—with gentle surface wear and rubbing. A highly dynamic shade displaying an artistic and thoughtful glass selection, with strong visual interest from every quadrant. When viewing the lamp firsthand the colors are warmer and show greater artistic nuance than can be seen in the catalogue illustrations. The Poppy blossoms show a wide range of colors including rich red, orange, green and golden hues.
