Condition

Overall in very good condition. The polychromed gilt bronze surfaces throughout display a rich warm patina with subtle accents of green and red hues throughout the feather passages. The gilt bronze surfaces with gentle rubbing, a few scattered light surface scratches, minor discolorations and light surface soiling consistent with age and gentle use. The peacock feathers on the front of the frame are executed in sculpted relief imparting the frame with strong visual interest, movement and tactility. The inset favrile glass “Peacock” eyes all appear original, intact and undisturbed. The glass insets are beautifully iridized, displaying strong coloration and luminosity when viewed with reflected light. The reverse with a few scattered minor discolorations, surface scratches and areas of gentle rubbing to the patina of the backplate. The reverse appears to retain the original easel stand, sliding backplate and associated hardware. The clear glass front with scattered minute edge chips throughout, none of which are visible once the glass is installed in the frame. An outstanding example of this exceedingly rare frame design displaying a highly artistic composition and gorgeous coloration.
