Description

  • pottery and paulownia wood
comprising: a pottery jar with compressed globular body surmounted by a wide flared neck, decorated with geometric bands around the shoulder and the everted rim, and a pottery stem cup, Japanese wood boxes

Condition

Large Pottery Vessel: The neck had been broken and repaired, traces of restoration visible along the shoulder. There is a 4cm by 1.7cm semi-circular repaired chip to the rim. There is also a 3.2cm crack running from the rim to the interior. There are two cracks (possibly firing) running horizontally around the centre of the body (17cm and 12.5cm). Stem Cup: Two of the upright sections of the rim have been chipped off and there is a 1.3cm crack running from the rim.
