Description

  • stone, earthenware, paulownia wood
of rectangular form, the centre with a recessed well framed by a cloud scroll border, the reverse incised with figures in a mountainous landscape, dated yiwei year (corresponding to 1895) and signed Jin Lian (1841-1909), wood stand, Japanese wood box; together with an earthenware inkstone, Song dynasty, Japanese wood box

Condition

Inkstone - There is a 4cm crack running diagonally from the top edge of the underside. There is also a 4cm flaw/crack running around the side of the same corner and there is a 2cm polished out chip to the lower left edge. There is an approx 1cm by 1cm chip to the lower right corner to the upper surface and two smaller chips (5mm by 4mm and 3mm by 2mm) to the left edge two thirds of the way up. There is also a smaller chip (2mm by 2mm) below this. Earthenware inkstone - There are two chips to the underside of the rounded end (1.2cm by 1.3cm and 8mm by 8mm). There are other nicks and scratches throughout.
