Catalogue Note

Bonomi (1796-1878) travelled to Spain in July 1860 as a member of a large scientific expedition to observe the total solar eclipse of 18th July. A volume containing Bonomi's passport, letters, and drawings relating to this eclipse is preserved in the library of the Royal Astronomical Society (Add MSS no.56); this volume contains 2 small watercolours on paper of the eclipse by Bonomi, but nothing of the scale or size of this panorama.
