Catalogue Note

A FINE COLLECTION OF FRENCH VIEWS, mainly of Paris and its environs, including Paris (plates numbered 1-40 in pencil on verso), Versailles (41-78), St. Germain en Laye (79-85), Fontainebleau (86-96), St. Clou (97-101), Chateau de Richelieu (102-107) and elsewhere, including Chambord, Vincennes, Vaux le Vicomte, Chantilly, etc.

The Pérelle family were prolific artists and engravers. The patriarch of the family was Gabriel (1604-1677) and his son Adam (1640-1695) appears to have been the most prolific, perhaps assisted by his brother Adrien. In this composite album 112 plates are attributed to 'Perelle', 'APerelle' or 'ADPerelle', 14 are before letters with manuscript titles and 4 bear the name of Israel Silvestre as artist.
