Folio (280 x 192mm.), title within woodcut border, woodcut device on second title-page, woodcut illustrations, early eighteenth-century red morocco gilt, gilt edges, a few early manuscript notes, title-page with large stain at foot affecting border and with loss of text on verso, *4 with repaired tear (affecting text but without loss), *6 repaired in margins, a few small stains, wormhole in gutter of quire Qq, GG6 misbound between CC4 and DD1 and crudely attached with a strip of manuscript on paper, binding slightly rubbed and scraped

Catalogue Note

FIRST FRENCH EDITION of the Cruydeboeck (1554, also published by vander Loe), translated from the Flemish by Dodoens's friend Charles de L'Ecluse. The woodcuts are for the most part based on those found in octavo editions of Fuchs.
