Catalogue Note

The publication of this work was spread over a great many years. It was begun by Schneider in Amsterdam in 1773, and after 17 volumes passed to Blussé in Dordrecht in 1793. After a delay of eight years publication began again in Amsterdam, by Allart, between 1801 and 1807, when an additional 8 volumes (of birds) appeared, which are not present in this set. Thus the entire enterprise took thirty-five years.

These volumes comprise the full set of Buffon's mammals.
