Catalogue Note

Stillfried & Andersen's studio (also known as the Japan Photographic Association) operated in Yokohama between 1876 and 1885. They were noted for their fine hand-tinted portraits and landscapes, and also produced prints from negatives taken by Felice Beato in the late 1860s, which they had purchased from Beato in 1877. These albums contain a large number of images from Beato's negatives.
