Catalogue Note

RARE PHOTOGRAPHS OF EAST AFRICA, INCLUDING ZANIBAR, taken by a German naval officer between July 1888 and April 1889. The views, in four parts, comprise: Zanzibar (39), Bagamoyo (15, including no.5a), Dar-es-Salaam (12) and 'activity of our warships' (17), accompanied by 88pp. of text by J. Wangemann. Plate 1 in the fourth part (showing the ship Leipzig) was not issued and the plate list refers the reader to plate 14 in part one which shows the same subject.
