Catalogue Note

The photographs, nearly all of Chile, show views of Santiago (17), the railway bridge between Santiago and Valparaiso, rural scenes, a rodeo, Chillan market, Punta Arenas, Lota, Talcahuano, Coquimbo, Taltal, Antofagasta, Chañaral, Iquique, Arica; and in Peru: Callao, Lima (2), and views during and after the battle of Chorrillos (January 1881). The penultimate photograph shows the exterior of an office of Guerin Freres & Cie. with managers of the company at the windows and entrance (also in view is a box with the stencilled date 1882); this company was a large leather and haberdashery wholesale business in Chile and had offices in Valparaiso, Santiago and Concepcion. It may be assumed that the original owner of this album had connections with this firm.
