Chicago's "World Columbian Exposition" (World Fair) was dedicated in 1892, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' discovery of the New World, but actually took place from 1 May 1893 to 30 October 1893, significant to the citizenry as the 60th anniversary of the incorporation of Chicago as a city, but also as a symbol of Chicago's dramatic reconstruction after the Great Fire of 1871. The fan was printed for "Chicago Day", held on 9 October 1893, which saw a record attendance for a single-day.
