Catalogue Note

SECOND COMPLETE EDITION OF THE QUR'AN IN ARABIC; the first edition, printed in Venice in 1536/37, survives in a unique copy discovered in Venice in 1987. Hinckelmann (1652-1695) owned an impressive collection of Islamic manuscripts, which were sold off by his family after his death. This edition contains just the Arabic text, with no translation; the subsequent 1698 edition by Luigi Marracci included a Latin translation and commentary.
