Catalogue Note

THE RARE ENGLISH EDITION OF HURGRONJE'S IMPORTANT ACCOUNT OF MECCA, TOGETHER WITH EARLY PHOTOGRAPHS OF MECCA AND MEDINA BY ABDUL GHAFFAR. Ghaffar was a doctor in Mecca and became one of the earliest photographers in the city; he was taught photography by Christian Snouck Hurgronje, a Dutch scholar who travelled to Mecca in the 1880s and became a Muslim convert and changed his name to Abdul Ghaffar.
