Catalogue Note
A reprint of quires p-v of Locatellus's edition of Rhasis, published in 1497 (Goff R176), which was also issued with the colophon corrected to 10 January 1500 (Goff M78). Only 11 copies are recorded in ISTC.
Maimonides composed this compilation of 1500 medical aphorisms in Arabic, which was translated into Hebrew and then Latin in the thirteenth century, and first published in Latin in 1489. This edition includes the aphorisms of Johannes Damascenus or Mesue, a ninth-century Baghdad physician responsible for the translation of Greek medical works into Arabic. Ibn Zuhr (Avenzohar)'s short treatise De curatione lapidis appears here in print for the first time. For another work by Avenzohar, with annotations in the same hand, see lot 101.
