Catalogue Note
RARE. The maps are almost exclusively of Mediterranean islands, particularly in the Aegean, and include Rhodes, Crete, Cyprus, Malta, Sicily, Elba, Corsica, Sardinia and Majorca. The final map is of Britain.
The verso of the title bears a long contemporary inscription addressed to the author and signed Luigi Zenobi. This is most likely the virtuoso cornet player and writer Luigi Zenobi who was born in Ancona (the place of publication of this work) in 1547/8 and died after 1602 (see Stanley Sadie, editor, The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, vol.27, p.793).
