Catalogue Note

A rare set of all seven letters by Ferdinand von Richthofen, one of the most important explorers of China, who between 1868 and 1872 made seven expeditions in the north, east, and middle provinces of China. Richthofen’s early findings were published in these famous letters to the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce, which financed the expeditions.
